Deleting Pages In Word 2016 For Mac
One of the questions I get asked most about the Pages application is how to delete specific document pages. The problem is that when you start with the blank template, for example, the program will flow your content into one long section, meaning that you won’t be able to delete just one page. You can see how this works by choosing View> Show Page Thumbnails, which’ll slide out a bar along the left side of your window. It’s subtle, but can you see how all five of my pages are grouped within that yellow box? That indicates that they all belong to the same section.
Because of that, if I click on the thumbnail for a specific page and press Delete, bad things will start happening. Docker for mac elasticsearch. Best password manager for mac 2018. OK, so you can’t remove individual pages within the same section, so how do you get a stinkin’ page out of there? What you’ll have to do is designate that page as its own section.
Aug 9, 2017 - Unwanted pages in Word are annoying but there's any easier way to get rid of them without hitting backspace forever. Delete as one of the options. Click it and your home! Return to arrow as often as necessary unless you can figure a way of deleting all highlights with one click.
To do that, just place your cursor at the top of the page you want to delete, and then choose Insert> Section Break. Then when you click within your thumbnails, you’ll see that your page (and the ones following it) have been separated from the previous pages. Then you’ll walk through the steps to insert a section break at the end of that same page, which’ll put the soon-to-be-deleted misfit into its own lonely section. See how pages one, three, and four look larger than two and five? Pages that begin sections are shown as larger thumbnails, so that’s another visual clue that I can now delete page three with no consequences to the rest of my document. Annnnnd it’s done.
That was kind of convoluted, but we got there, right? I am so proud of us.
Just for clarification, please note that there is a significant difference between a hard return (indicated by the ¶ symbol) & a Page Break. Deleting the ¶s doesn't necessarily remove a Page Break. Since the OP of this thread didn't return to state otherwise we have no idea whether the suggestion worked for her. Typically, though, posters return for more help if what's suggested doesn't work.
If it does work they often go their merry way without returning to say so. At any rate, just because it 'does not work' for you means only that your cause is not the same & should have been posted separately. Off the top of my head there are at least 5 reasons why an unwanted final page would appear in a document. How to remove it is determined by what it is that's causing it. Inappropriate use or the return/Enter key resulting is extra ¶ symbols is but one of those possibilities & is the simplest to recognize & eliminate. The other possibilities are; • The use of a manual [ forced] Page Break • The use of a Section Break (Next Page) • The use of Page Break Before paragraph formatting ( Line & Page Breaks) • A Table at the end of the document which comes too close to the bottom margin. Tables in Word always are followed by an empty ¶ which cannot be deleted.
Item #4 should be apparent if that's the issue. With the nonprinting characters displayed you should be able to determine which of the others may be at fault. Sometimes, though, #1 & #2 can be difficult to spot, especially if inserted at the end of a full line of text. Once you identify the cause, let us know if you have any question on how to remove it.
